"The evolution of media towards mainly digital platforms has provoked a long crisis in their financing, often resulting in them being absorbed into large industrial groups seeking political influence. In the North as in the South, economic models for independent news and information need to be reinv...ented." (p.1)

"It seems that it is not easy for media companies to be more diverse. But it is important. A few companies are trying to appear more diverse in public but there is still much to be done. In the United States, Europe or Germany, minority groups are underrepresented throughout. Here are some of our ke...y findings: There is a significant lack of studies on diversity in the media industries besides studies on gender diversity; the distribution of money in the media industry is biased; the media indsutry is lacking bipoc and women; white males are defining the media industries; there needs to be diversity in management before there can be diversity in content." "The purpose of the Media for Democracy Assessment Tool (MAT) is to assist United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in producing media assessments to inform strategy on media and democracy programming, help inform potential media development programming goals, and help provide an i...nformed understanding of where USAID investment is most feasible and needed and will have the best chances for impact. The MAT provides a standardized methodology to answer the key question: How do media connect to democracy and how can media support democracy promotion and civic space?" (Introduction, p.6)

"This guide is meant to serve as a practical resource for funders who want to understand where to start. Informed by feedback from our network, it represents a synthesis of the past seven years of work we’ve done in the impact space, and includes examples of successful media impact evaluation, too...ls and frameworks for assessment, and the challenges of defining and measuring impact in a rapidly-shifting media landscape. Our years of research have led us to four key insights: 1. There are many different frameworks for measuring media impact for different areas of practice. 2. Funders should be mindful of power dynamics, and thoughtful in determining appropriate impact strategies with their grantees. 3. Digital analytics tools provide a wealth of useful data, but grantees require financial and logistical support in implementing them. 4. There are opportunities for funders to collaborate with each other to share best practices and increase collective impact." (Executive summary)

"In this paper we describe how quality in reporting could be measured through content analysis. We show that this approach, although somewhat technical, is feasible. It can help projects to become better and more successful. As a suggestion for practitioners in media development we present three opt...ions for measuring quality of reporting for monitoring and evaluation purposes." (Abstract)

"This Working Paper from DFID’s Evaluation Department offers a menu of Voice & Accountability (V&A) indicators, and suggests steps for building monitoring and evaluation frameworks for V&A interventions. It provides a check list of management issues, and some ideas for data collection. It does not... attempt to make any judgement about the indicators identified, as this work will be further developed under DFID’s ‘Suggested Indicators for Governance’ work, due in 2010. The paper is intended for DFID advisers and managers working on V&A initiatives at the country level. It will also be of use to people outside DFID who are interested in understanding how V&A work contributes to development outcomes; or who want more information about data collection methods for V&A measurement. V&A interventions range from work with governments on policy and reform processes, to activities at community level on civic education and rights awareness. DFID supports a significant amount of V&A work through government and non-state actors, in sector programmes and in work with civil society organisations including the media. We now need to establish the evidence base to show what change has resulted." (Executive summary)

"This publication addresses the monitoring and evaluation of development results. It is intended to support country offices in aligning their monitoring and evaluation systems with results-based management (RBM) methodology—specifically in tracking and measuring the performance of UNDP interventio...ns and strategies and their contributions to outcomes. It aims to provide simple, flexible and forward-looking tools." (Preface)
