iminate Violence Against Women and Girls. Language used in different communication materials and trainings puts forward specific positions and impressions, including at times perpetuating stereotypes. Thus, it is crucial to be clear about terms and definitions related to women migrant workers and violence against women, establishing a common ground from which to have conversations and work towards a world in which rights are respected for all and one in which women’s voice, choice and agency is recognised. This glossary presents rights-based terminology, which is based on international law and internationally agreed guidance wherever possible." (Introduction)

"If you have asked someone to cover a story for you, you have a legal and ethical duty of care to that person. The legal aspects may vary between jurisdictions, but increasingly courts are considering these issues and in at least one case (in Australia) have ruled against the news organization, in a

case related to an employee. While the impact of these legal actions may not flow to all jurisdictions and to the freelance relationship, no news organization can assume that their responsibilities for responding to trauma as it affects their staff, including freelancers, are minimal. It is no longer possible for news organizations to ignore the evidence about the potential impact of covering trauma as a news gatherer. As a manager, you need to understand, manage and respond to these risks before, during and after the freelancer works on the assignment. This guide is designed to help you understand and support your team. It is divided into five sections covering both general information and specific suggestions and tips for working with freelancers." (Page 4)

rs from marginalised communities all over the world - from garment workers in Bangladesh and people living with dementia in the UK, to quarantined villages covering the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone. This isn’t intended as a definitive guide. Every context will have its own unique challenges and every organisation will have its own workflows, outputs and audiences. This is an introduction to a framework to make journalism inclusive and empowering and borrows heavily from lessons learned from community organising, service design and the humanitarian sector." de silencio ha dejado a los periodistas huérfanos de formación. (Editorial)

"This pilot toolkit has been devised by journalists and media trainers to help reporters and editors working on international migration. It will be the starting point of a broader project on how to cover news while maintaining respect for diversity and human rights. Its premise is that diversity and

human rights are best covered through responsible, ethical journalism that acknowledges the diversity of minorities and respects migrants as human beings rather than treating them as a political, social and economic problem. The pilot toolkit includes examples of how the media in France and the United Kingdom reported on the large numbers of migrants’ arrivals that began in 2015, from different angles, and analyses the media coverage to illustrate good practice. The toolkit also contains training exercises that can be done individually or in groups to improve participants’ skills and knowledge, as well as tips for reporters and editors that will serve as useful reminders, a glossary of legal terms and links to organisations that can provide useful data and further information. The essence of responsible, ethical journalism is treating people fairly. This means practising professional journalistic diligence – checking the accuracy of information and correcting mistakes quickly and transparently; it means giving as much background information as necessary for readers and listeners to fully understand the story; it means letting people tell their own stories, in their own words, whenever possible; and it means avoiding inflammatory or extremist language." emale victims of violence (telephone numbers and contact details of associations and support services, etc.) helps to prevent and tackle gender-based violence, and to assist victims. To help journalists with their reporting work, this handbook brings together the advice of experienced reporters, charters of good practice from many media outlets around the world, and recommendations for journalists from institutions such as the Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma, the International Federation of Journalists, the Ethical Journalism Network (EJN), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health Organization (WHO), UNESCO, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and others. This publication therefore contains very practical advice, particularly about avoiding certain pitfalls when reporting on gender-based violence." (Objectives, page 11)
