"This article contributes to the study of radio pedagogy in Africa by exploring the Cameroonian case. It shows how Cameroon, after it gained independence in 1960 but faced a shortage of primary school teachers, set up a continuous training scheme based on distance learning via radio broadcasts. Draw

ing on archival sources of Yaoundé, documentaries and field interviews, and taking a historical approach and a deductive logic, the article analyzes the implementation of this training initiative. It highlights the didactic devices, the teaching methods and the distance learning programs. The analysis shows that many teachers benefited from a professional qualification. The distance learning contributed to their skills development and career advancement. However, the article also reveals that the economic crisis of the 1980s put an end to this continuous training of teachers. It concludes with shedding light on the current challenges of technology use in Cameroon’s education." (Abstract)

s no significant relationship between civic education radio programmes and the behaviour of the youth in Freetown Sierra Leone”, was the hypothesis that guided the research; and the Chi-squire test formula was used to test this hypothesis. The study was anchored on the Uses and Gratifications theory, the social responsibility theory and the social learning theory. A descriptive research method was used to implement this study. The youth of Freetown, from ages 15 to 35 years, as of 2021, a total of 248,508 was its population. Using the Taro Yamane’s formula for sampling, 393 respondents were arrived at for the sample size. The copies of the questionnaire were distributed to these respondents; and 11 oral interview questions were drawn as guide for data collection. The Cronbach’s alpha reliability test was used, with 0.73 result, and simple frequency/percentage analysis was used for analysis. The major findings of the study included: Civic education radio programmes were available for the consumption of the youth in Freetown. However, they had little or no effect on their behaviour as there were rampant uncivil behaviour, violence during elections, and public property vandalism amongst others. The work concluded that with continuous investigation, analysis and assessments, these programmes could be restructured to meet the desired impact on the behaviour of the youth. The study recommended, amongst others, that transistor radios be provided for the youth who could not afford digital and internet facilities, the designing and production of civic education programmes must involve trained personnel and the targeted audience together, and that civic education radio programmes should be included in the curricula of the schools." e se trata de una historia particular, situada, marcada por las subjetividades de sus protagonistas, esta sistematización hace parte de la historia de tantas experiencias leídas desde el campo de la comunicación educación que es un campo potente y poderoso en nuestro continente. The study assessed the effectiveness of educational radio broadcasting for adult literacy in Lagos State, Nigeria. Five hundred and five (505) adult learners participating in Lagos is Learning Project were purposively selected. Findings showed that a majority (62.4%) of the study participants used the instructional radio program, Mooko Mooka, to prepare for classroom instruction, while 53.5% of the study participants used the program for revision. Findings also revealed that 40.6% of them listened to the program three times per week and this implied that frequency of exposure could influence literacy skill. The study concluded that radio instructional techniques were effective in promoting adult literacy and therefore recommended that the radio listening sessions should be increased as part of efforts to reduce adult illiteracy in the country. Also, community media centers should be created in different communities to encourage group listening where learners can be supervised." (Abstract)

It examines how to assess whether IAI is suitable in a particular context, describing common challenges, conditions for production, and partnership opportunities, and offering a detailed checklist with which to evaluate IAI’s potential for success in a given situation. The handbook also considers how to plan for the implementation of IAI. A decision tree is presented to illustrate the available options, guide the programme planning and development timelines, and advise on the propitious development context in terms of partnerships for successful implementation. The four appendices include a video introduction to this report (appendix A), a summary of notable implementation examples with links to key documentation (appendix B), a complete catalogue worldwide programming (appendix C) and case studies outlining the programming created in the Southern African Development Community (appendix D)." mbers to enhance their numerical ability. To this end, the study employed quantitative research design, which involved the survey of a sample of 12,000 respondents taken from among the community members constituting the audience of the community radio stations in the country. The study employed multi-stage sampling to first identify 12 community radio stations, in the first instance, followed by the identification of one thousand households in each of these community radio stations and one respondent from each of the selected households, giving due consideration to the parity of gender. The data collected from each of these 12,000 respondents was processed with the help of descriptive statistical tools to arrive at inferences necessary to achieve the purposes of the study. The study revealed that while community members were comfortable in solving simple mathematical sums and calculating their wages, they experienced difficulties in the use of mathematical skills in the computation of interest, discount, percentage and conversion of scales of measurement. The study further revealed that community members listened to radio extensively and were eager to not just listen to radio programmes based on the imparting of mathematical skills but also willing to adopt a participatory approach in their production, based on their competencies."
